Job Description:

This position is with the Region 9 Technical Services Team, located within the Forest Service’s Eastern Region. The purpose of the position is to provide professional architectural design, planning, and technical services. The incumbent is responsible for the planning and design management of designated major design, construction, renovation, or alteration projects.

Job Responsibilities:

• Serve as the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) and Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the Contracting Officer during studies, project design, or construction.
• Incorporate latest developments in the design and construction of buildings into agency policy requirements and program objectives.
• Identify the optimal procedure for renovation, design, and construction, including in-house design and use of an Architect/Engineer firm.
• Evaluate and approve the work of architect/engineer firms to verify design excellence and compliance with all regulations and design criteria.
• Interpret advanced concepts and diverse information in related building and design professions such as landscape architecture or related engineering disciplines.
• Provide technical support to field offices in need of architectural advice, review, and evaluations.
• Review drawings and construction documents for assigned projects to ensure compliance of project work with customer needs, agency policies, codes and building standards.
• Perform technical reviews of contractor prepared designs and specifications for assigned projects.
• Review a wide range of contractor submittals, determines compliance or noncompliance for such submittals, and accepts or rejects them on behalf of the agency.

Job Requirements:

• Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
• Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
• Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.

• Must possess and maintain a state professional license as a registered architect.
