Job Description:
As a Senior Stratigrapher you will have the opportunity to be a key contributor as a member of the UK Development & Subsurface organisation providing up-to-date stratigraphic services and data in support of both Exploration and Development projects and studies as part of the Basin Expert team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Operated Assets; planning, design and delivery of safe and efficient development and exploration wells (incl. wellsite stratigraphic services), maximizing production, identifying and maturing new Infill wells and Field Development opportunities.
- Work closely with contractors to deliver high quality stratigraphic data acquisition and interpretation at wellsite providing support to drilling operations (requiring out of normal office hours support for critical decision making/logistics including some evenings and weekends) as well as delivery of stratigraphic studies from regional to field/prospect scale.
- Development and Subsurface Capability providing deep technical expertise, technical assurance and skill pool management (resourcing and capability) across the organisation.
- Non-Operated Assets: supporting our NOV team to successfully influence the operator to maximise value through focused engagement and influencing in line with key focus areas.
- Integrated Data Analysis and Reservoir Modelling in support of projects in both Operated and Non-Operated Assets.
- Energy Transition: screening, planning and delivery of UK CCUS opportunities, projects and regional screening studies.
- Interface with Exploration to high grade the portfolio and targeted maturation of highest value opportunities (incl. Regional studies, Play Based Exploration, new Leads and Prospects)
Job Requirements:
- Experience of Seismic and Sequence stratigraphy and ideally other stratigraphic methods from regional to field scale (e.g stable isotopes, heavy minerals, fission track analysis).
- Excellent communicator and team player with sound organisational and leadership attributes and behaviours (incl. Learner Mindset).
- You need to have strong partnering and influencing skills, have a learner mindset, be culturally sensitive and be outcome-oriented and role model these.
- Exercise accountability for HSE within your sphere of influence (incl. contractor management).
- Excellent track record of high-quality results delivered in time and on budget.
- Ability to independently define and deliver technical work and lead all aspects related with operational stratigraphic support including at wellsite (for several drilling wells per annum) from contractor holder duties to people management during wellsite operations (incl. HSSE, personnel and equipment logistics, timings, data analysis & quality control).
- Significant stratigraphic knowledge and expertise from Regional to Prospect/Field scale with a broad skillset including well-based stratigraphic techniques (incl. zonation/correlation based on age diagnostic data and interpretation from core, cuttings and well logs, paleo-bathymetry and environmental interpretation/GDE).
- Review and re-interpret stratigraphic data from numerous wells per annum in support of both operational well delivery and Development/Exploration studies (incl. Play Based Exploration incl. generation of GDE and CRS maps).Excellent understanding of Exploration and Development business drivers.
- Thorough knowledge of optimal stratigraphic data acquisition, quality control, interpretation, integration and data management based on seismic and well data using biostratigraphy, chemostratigraphy and other stratigraphic tools.
- Skill level competences in stratigraphy software, workflows, databases (e.g StrataBugs, IC, Openworks or equivalent).
- Extensive stratigraphical industry experience with a relevant PhD or MSc in stratigraphy or related discipline.
- You build and maintain a strong network of personal relationships with external and internal stakeholders, based on trust, credibility and business intimacy.
- Act as a contract holder for the offshore Northwest Europe biostratigraphic contracts (incl. wellsite stratigraphic services).
- Prior experience working UKCS and familiarity with North Sea & Atlantic Margin regional stratigraphy through prior studies and project work seen as highly desirable and advantageous.
- Provide external vendor support organising projects and services for biostratigraphic data acquisition and deliver of stratigraphic studies.
- Ability to provide stratigraphic support to colleagues across different Shell locations within the UK and globally.
- Experience delivering stratigraphical services including via contractors (e.g co-ordination and supervision of wellsite stratigraphic services). Ability to provide support and technical input to drilling operations (including some out of office hours support for operational decision making and logistics).
