Job Description:
The purpose of this role is be the eyes, ears (and voice) of Shell’s global Corporate Relations organisation as it relates to UK foreign policy and policymakers/influencers. Given that the UK is one of the two ‘home’ markets of Shell (as a UK-listed PLC), and that so many issues and opportunities around the world could/should/do have a UK nexus, this is a vital lynchpin role suitable for a self-starting, policy-astute, globally curious corporate affairs professional.
Job Responsibilities:
- Command detailed understanding of stakeholders relevant to Shell’s international business and build effective and coordinated stakeholder relationships including with relevant senior UK Government officials, key influencers, industry associations and the London-based diplomatic community.
- Act as a role model on safety and ethical leadership.
- Coordinate engagement with key international decision-makers in (and visiting) the UK – ministers, senior officials, diplomats, MPs, think tanks, NGOs, academics and other business leaders. Support engagements with briefing and advocacy materials.
- Ensure senior business leaders in Shell understand UK Government foreign policy (especially global challenges and energy transition).
- Help identify opportunities for Shell to leverage available UK Government support internationally, especially with energy transition investments and as part of UK Government’s ‘Global Britain’ trade agenda.
- Undertake to maintain a deep understanding of Shell’s global business interests and how these may be advanced in the UK policy community.
- Together with Trade Controls colleagues, keep abreast of formal sanctions developments and UK Government encouragement or otherwise of trade with specific countries.
- Understand and influence the opportunities, challenges and trends in UK Government foreign policy that potentially impact Shell’s UK and international businesses.
- Provide advice on the external risks impacting commercial decision-making in Shell’s international portfolio, with a particular focus on Europe, Africa, MENA and Asia Pacific.
- Establish policy positions and advocacy strategies relating to UK foreign policy that impact Shell’s business.
Job Requirements:
- Detailed understanding of political, diplomatic, external stakeholder and media landscape, as well as a good understanding of international foreign policy landscape.
- Educated to degree level.
- Experience of working in international affairs, in/with government, diplomatic service or in other external organisations (international organisations, NGOs, think tanks) is an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English).
