Job Description:

Geismar Chemical is the only stand-alone Chemical Plant in the USA, and accounts for nearly half of Chemicals business results. Geismar has a long-term growth strategy, including downstream’s newest unit, AO4, and future growth projects. We leverage Shell proprietary technology to produce Ethylene Oxide, Ethylene Glycol, Alpha Olefins, Alcohols, Ethoxylates.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assure complete documentation of key technical work
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Lead Process Safety improvement initiatives
  • Provide technical support of operations activities with technical, maintenance, and HSE departments (first technical point of contact for run and maintain issues)
  • Conduct proactive technical monitoring to support Operations in meeting targets for Safety, Environmental Compliance, Quality Assurance, Reliability, and Utilization.
  • Serve as a unit representative on site-wide teams as required
  • Provide technical direction for HSSE-MS activities (PHA, Corrosion control reviews, Investigations, etc.)
  • Respond to urgent and critical operational related items at the request of the Operations Staff
  • Assure timely completion of assigned action items from HSSE-MS activities (PHA, etc.).
  • Perform technical assurance of changes (MOC’s)
  • Define and implement Safe Operating Limits
  • Provide process engineering support for successful implementation of unit outages and catalyst changes
  • Provide technical oversight of the site’s process operations
  • This position must be available to provide some level of support 24/7 via phone call or other technology, and off hours callouts are sometimes required
  • Perform process unit optimization to improve energy usage, cost, and margin delivery
  • Participate in audits as needed to maintain compliance with state & federal requirements, as well as local and corporate standards
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the Unit Master Plan efforts and the Geismar Expansion Organization
  • Be a change leader on projects. This includes leading the project during scouting to concept stages while providing technical support for the duration of the project
