Royal Mail Jobs – Sr Data Engineer

Job Description:

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to have a key role for the end-to-end delivery of the data strategy at Royal Mail, working along with our Data Science team to ensure that engineering practices and product delivery have the best engineering practices and standards. This is a crucial role for Royal Mail as a tech company. In order to implement innovative data use cases to put ourselves technologically ahead of our competitors, you should expect to have a high impact and visibility from the business. We are looking for an experienced Engineer with a wealth of Data experience, but who also has recent experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployments to the Cloud.

Job Responsibilities:

• You will have an important role solving problems like routes optimisation, estimation of parcel delivery time windows, failures prediction in machines and vehicles.
• Drive simple, standardised and innovative ways to ingest, process, store and to analyse various data sources.
• As a Senior Data Engineer at the Data & Engineering department, you will be driving a large batch, streaming and machine learning applications from the design to production in the Cloud.
• Design, implementation and monitoring of our cloud data platform.
• Drive automation in the continuous integration pipelines, infrastructure management and configuration.
• Drive and mentor data engineering teams to ensure strategic data product outcomes that incrementally reduce our data estate technical debt
• Line manage, continuously improve, certify and mentor Data engineers
• Work with the Data Science team to deploy machine learning user cases to production.

Job Requirements:

• Automated testing
• Containerisation technologies (Docker and/or Kubernetes).
• SQL
• Extensive Python experience
• Experience with JVM Languages (Java and/or Scala)
• Build and continuous integration tools, CI/CD pipelines
• Key data structures, algorithms and software design patterns.
• Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark or Hive).
• Experience with distributed applications in public cloud environments (ideally GCP).
