Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for institutional security, inmate conduct and discipline, inmate work, control of hazardous tools and material, safety, sanitation, control and use of institution vehicles, and key control in his assigned areas.
- Also inspects facilities, observes personnel and inmates from the standpoint of security, morale and employee/inmate relations, and overall program coordination.
- Along with all other correctional institution employees, the Captain is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution.
- The staffs correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
- Serves as the department head over the Correctional Services department at a Bureau of Prisons federal prison camp. Serves as the resident expert on all custodial and security questions arising at the facility, and has full and final technical responsibility when problems occur during the course of any given shift.
- Serves as an advisor to the Warden and the correctional staff in the formulation and implementation of institution policies, procedures and programs.
- Must integrate these policies and procedures into the overall operations of the facility, as well as the correctional department, and keep management advised of activities effecting institution programs.
Job Requirements:
- Experience conducting internal audits of all areas in an institution.
- U.S. Citizenship Required
- Experience providing guidance and counseling to employees.
- Experience preparing, changing, and implementing post orders.
- Experience preparing quarterly assignment rosters.
