CDC Jobs – Epidemiologist

The incumbent applies epidemiological expertise in assisting the health department to prepare for and respond quickly to potential or real public health emergencies. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, some CDC employees have been authorized to work virtually. However, when CDC is cleared to return back to work, you will be required to report to the location identified in the vacancy announcement for which you applied.

• As a Epidemiologist you will: Provide technical assistance and consultation to the State or local health department in the technical and scientific planning, direction, management, and analyses of the State or local health department’s terrorism preparedness and response activities.
• Collaborate with health department officials to develop priorities in communication, coordination and planning of terrorism and other emergency response activities.
• Participate in the planning, development, implementation, analysis, and evaluation of the State or local public health surveillance systems, with emphasis on detection of terrorism-related health events.
• Evaluate and analyze assigned jurisdiction’s data collection, quality control, and data utilization methods.
• Develops strategies and methods to improve the quality of the data collected.
• Respond to public health calls, as needed, from health care providers and the general public during off-duty hours, including evenings and weekends.

• Applicant must have a Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
• This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
