CDC Jobs – Computer Scientist

Job Description:

The primary purpose of the position is to develop solutions for a variety of nonrecurring problems in the public health informatics field and to anticipate future needs and trends, investigating the application of new technology. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, some CDC employees have been authorized to work virtually. However, when CDC is cleared to return back to work, you will be required to report to the location identified in the vacancy announcement for which you applied.

Job Responsibilities:

• Address public health informatics data or management needs, necessitating the need for experimental computer technologies, products, and prototype systems to overcome critical business obstacles.
• Conduct computer analysis and in-depth investigations to identify the most feasible approaches to hardware/software/networking system design and development problems.
• Develop recommendations to change system requirements to meet the needs of multiple users.
• Plan, construct, and maintain databases for data storage, manipulation, and retrieval.
• Evaluate and/or modify commercial database management systems and/or develop programs to maintain files, perform data validation routines, etc.

Job Requirements:

• Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
• Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience conducting computer analysis and in-depth investigations to identify the most feasible approaches to hardware/software/networking system design and development problems.
• Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
• You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
