Job Description:
The Sr State Tax Analyst ensures company compliance with state income/franchise law and tax accounting under GAAP. Implements state and local tax minimization strategies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assists in the preparation and review of state income tax apportionment information.
- Prepares and/or reviews quarterly state income tax estimated payments and annual extension requests.
- As requested, participates in state income tax audits; determines risks and calculates exposure; informs management of results and makes recommendations.
- Assists with Company transfer pricing methodology implementation and monitoring.
- Prepares and/or reviews responses to inquiries and correspondence from state and local tax authorities.
- Researches and analyses the state income tax ramifications of business transactions as necessary, including quantifying the opportunities and risks associated therewith.
- Prepares state income and franchise tax returns as requested for states where the Company is required to file returns; prepares all supporting documentation required to ensure accurate and timely filing of returns and provides adequate audit trails.
- Monitors state tax developments and informs management of issues and events that may impact the Company.
- Reviews state income and franchise tax returns for designated states where the Company is required to file returns, including all supporting documentation required to ensure accurate and timely filing of returns and the provision of adequate audit trails.
- Assists with select portions of the federal income tax return.
- Prepares and/or reviews state and local income general ledger accounts and account reconciliations, including any ancillary schedules as required.
- Prepares and/or reviews state and/or local income tax provisions and related calculations under ASC 740 and 740-10, as requested.
Job Requirements:
- Working and conceptual knowledge of multi-state corporate income tax principles including apportionment and allocation rules and separate and combined reporting issues.
- Five or more years of experience in corporate or public tax preferred, with working knowledge of state and federal income tax concepts.
- Experience with tax preparation/provision software preferred; experience with Thomson Reuters’ ONESOURCE would be beneficial.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required; CPA and/or Masters in Tax preferred.
- Skill with Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel) required. Experience with automation software programs such as Alteryx would be beneficial.
- Working knowledge of SAP ERP Financials including general ledger preferred.
- Skill in analytics, verbal and written communications required.
- Working knowledge of ASC 740 would be beneficial.
