Valero Job Openings – I & E Technician II

Website Valero Energy

Job Description:

Practical knowledge and understanding of National Electrical code guidelines required. Knowledge and understanding of safe electrical practices, safe hot work practices, confine space regulations and DOT pipeline safety devices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Understands the types of pneumatic and electronic transmitters used in level measurement, the calibration of each and the test instruments used.
  • Uses appropriate test equipment, soldering techniques, wire wrap techniques, hand tools, component and wire identification documentation.
  • Understands calibration sheets, instrument specification sheets and installation details and recognize standard symbols.
  • Installs and maintains truck loading, additive injection, and pipeline proving and control systems (where applicable).
  • Understands and recognizes electrical and electronic units of measurement such as volts, amps, watts, ohms, hertz, farads, etc.; basic components (batteries, voltage sources, current sources, resistors, capacitors, inductors, transistors and integrated circuits).
  • Applies terms, definitions, and concepts from mechanics, electricity, heat and chemistry. (Solutions may involve simple formulas for figuring flash point, specific gravity, and expansion rate.)
  • Possesses the knowledge to understand current-voltage-resistance relationships in direct current circuits. Apply Ohm’s Law.
  • Inspects and replaces power cords and distribution cables. Locate and replace faulty resistors, capacitors, inductors, transistors, IC units and printed circuit (PC) boards.
  • Connects pneumatic and electronic level sensors and transducers for accurate calibration.
  • Understands the terminology (PSIG, PSIA, supply air, instrument air, signal); components (links, levers, flapper or baffle, nozzle, relay, vents, filters); and pneumatic circuitry.
  • Reads and interprets wiring and ladder diagrams.
  • Possesses the knowledge to understand current-voltage-impedance relationships in alternating current circuits.
  • Possesses the ability to understand the operation of basic electric/electronic test equipment (DC power supplies, milliamp calibrators, millivolt calibrators, multimeters, signal sources, function generators, oscilloscopes, decade boxes, Wheatstone bridges, impedance testers and frequency generators); calibration procedures for electric and electronic transmitters, controllers and control valve actuators; bench repair of various electric and electronic instruments and components (circuit boards, power supplies, relays, receiver and transmitter elements).
  • Understands basic trouble shooting methods for motors, contactors, transformers, relays, and lighting. Recognizes power quality problems.
  • Reads schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Applies the principles of pneumatics as used in industrial instrumentation.

Job Requirements:

  • Practical knowledge and understanding of National Electrical code guidelines required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3 years of electrical & instrumentation field experience or other industry related experience required.
