Job Description:

The Graduate Student Program Advisor and Coordinator is a highly-experienced professional who provides counsel to students on the full range of requirements and opportunities for one self-funded, professionally-oriented graduate degree program in the Office of Advanced Professional Education and Development (OAPED) at UCSD Division of Extended Studies. The graduate coordinator provides graduate program advising and student services advising related to the student’s academic progression towards the degree, program and graduate policies, as well as provides resources and assistance for student life matters such as obtaining financial aid, health insurance, enrollment records, etc.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The coordinator also assists the program’s academic leadership with day to day program operations and management, such as organizing committee meetings, recording minutes, planning and scheduling courses each quarter, administering petitions related to student matters, implement and submit documentation for curriculum changes and course format changes, etc.
  • Analyzes and recommends solutions regarding progression to degree completion and issues related to graduation.
  • Reviews eligibility and recommends students for advanced coursework.
  • Addresses student conduct and academic integrity or related issues.
  • Enforces policies of the Graduate Division and of the Program.
  • Advises faculty regarding policies, program objectives, and student needs. In conjunction with the program directors and other stakeholders, participates in long-range strategic planning and the development of strategic student recruitment plans.

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in forecasting enrollment, and developing and overseeing simple budgets
  • Knowledge of common graduate program designs, including admissions requirements, processes, and progression to candidacy.
  • Ability in problem identification and reasoning.
  • Experience in advising students regarding student life, financial assistance, study workload, student conduct and other related issues.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, delivering, and managing educational programs for adults.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
