Job Description:

Tesla is seeking a Policy Advisor to join the Policy team. The assigned territory for this position will be the Mountain West United States.  This is a Nevada-based position with oversight responsibility for Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming and other states.  Tesla’s Policy team supports the company’s objectives by engaging key stakeholders on a broad range of policy platforms, including legislative, municipal, business development and regulatory matters to support electric vehicle and charging infrastructure deployment, decarbonization and vehicle emission reduction standards and viable energy storage and solar energy markets.

Job Responsibilities:

• Coalition building and outreach within the sustainable transportation and energy communities
• Coordinating across teams to support and implement policy-related Gigafactory Nevada efforts
• Tracking and analyzing legislative and regulatory policy proposals at the state, regional and municipal levels
• Developing and negotiating policy proposals and business development opportunities, advocating on behalf of Tesla to parties, stakeholders and state leaders, as well as engaging community, industry and related organizations.

Job Requirements:

• Knowledge of transportation and electricity policy topics with particular focus on electric vehicles and EV charging infrastructure, Clean Car/Clean Fuel Standards, and RPS programs preferred
• Must be able to self-manage and committed to working in a fast-paced environment
• MBA, MPP, JD or other advanced degree preferred Or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
• 7 years’ experience with state or federal government
• Must be detail-oriented and well-organized self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills
• Exemplary negotiating skills
• BA in relevant field or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
• Must have a proven track record for policy initiatives
• Nevada-based with frequent local and US travel when conditions permit
