We are hiring a Director of Engineering to lead our Reliability group. As a leader of this group you will help shape and grow the area for the next generation of scale. This is a mission critical, high impact role where you will define and manage the strategic and technical direction, culture and execution that enables every engineering team to ship reliably, securely and efficiently. Your teams will architect and drive technical roadmaps, operational and service ownership philosophy and end to end incident management for Slack, a primary communication and collaboration tool that millions of workers use all day long. Our users expect Slack to be exceptionally reliable and fast, all the time.
If you are a Senior Engineering leader passionate about reliability, understand the tradeoffs between different SRE models, have a proven record of building healthy high performing teams, have experience managing large scale fault-tolerant systems, care about metrics and developer experience then this role may be for you. Job Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively with direct teams, peers, and upper management.
- Identify, prioritize and execute against opportunities to support and enable engineering teams with availability, performance, efficiency, resiliency, change management, incident response.
- Coach and mentor engineers and peers to propagate reliability best practices across engineering as a whole
- Drive large initiatives by collaborating across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Manage and execute a reliability and resiliency roadmap that delivers on tooling and overarching systemic projects that will make the system more resilient and enable SRE and every engineering team to ship more reliably, safely, securely and efficiently.
- Develop Reliability/SRE, Incident Management strategic direction and culture considering reactive and proactive approaches.
- Foster a culture of blame-free incident analysis and learning.
Job Requirements:
- Your technical depth allows you to develop and mentor others as well as build credibility with your team.
- Experience establishing and measuring OKRs or team goals
- Experience with CI/CD, observability
- Experience interacting with customers, senior executives, and business leads.
- A nuanced understanding of diverse and inclusive hiring practices
- Experience with AWS or other major cloud providers
- 5+ years engineering management experience, managing global teams. Prior management of SRE teams is a strong plus.
- Experience concurrently managing multiple teams and managers
