Job Description:

Reporting to the Programme Technical Lead, the Feature Team Technical Lead is ultimately accountable for the technical architecture, coding standards and the non-functional requirements of the service. The Technical Lead understands the business vision and can clearly articulate the solution that will meet the business need. The Technical Lead manages the architects and developers. They actively measure the service performance and test the non-functional aspects of the system to ensure it is performant, scalable, resilient and secure.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Champion modern engineering processes including use of cloud, continuous integration/delivery, component re-use and automation.
  • Is a hands-on, seasoned technical expert, developing complex features.
  • Work with the Product Owner to ensure technical debt is recorded and integrated as part of the product backlog. Ensure the product strategy is deliverable from a technical perspective.
  • Participate in the discovery and design process to ensure story acceptance criteria can be met by the delivery teams.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to the development and technology resources, championing agile best practice.
  • Ensures the technical teams are effectively resourced, that a positive team culture is established and strive to build a collaborative, high-performing team. Responsible for performance management.
  • Document, maintain and communicate the technical architecture for the service, ensuring alignment with cross-channel design standards.
  • Define the development standards and coding practices, ensuring delivery teams are adhering to them through regular code reviews.
  • Identify and remove technical impediments, accountable for resolving technical blockers, escalating where appropriate.
  • Document and deliver non-functional requirements. Implement monitoring to ensure non-functional incidents are rapidly detected.

Job Requirements:

  • Considers themselves to be an expert in agile software development, keeping up to date with the latest trends they will want to keep coding part-time in order to maintain their skill levels.
  • Understands how to implement processes which enable delivery teams to deliver new features effectively and efficiently.
  • Passionate about the rapid delivery of business value and the process of continuous improvement within development teams.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with ability to articulate and resolve the causes of poor-quality delivery.
  • Has deep technology experience and has previously been a technical lead within an agile delivery team as part of a large-scale agile delivery programme or a distinguished engineer.
  • Demonstrates a solid history of software development within agile teams and understands the nuances of using agile at scale.
  • Is a proven leader and prides themselves in building highly productive teams.
  • Understands the key metrics that should be captured and reviewed to drive development productivity and quality within teams.
