Job Description:
Dolby Laboratories is seeking a Docketing Administrator focused on patent prosecution docketing and based in San Francisco. Reporting to the Manager, Docketing within the IP Operations team, you will play a crucial role in the Patents Group to help establish and protect our rights to our innovations. You will become part of a new, strong docketing department, taking ownership of docketing records and monitoring critical due dates to ensure all deadlines are met. You will serve as a resource and work cooperatively with a large team of in-house attorneys, patent agents, engineers, other docketers, and patent paralegals. You must be comfortable with multi-tasking and prioritization in a fast-paced environment with close attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness. You must excel at obtaining and effectively communicating information related to pending patent applications and matters of U.S. and foreign patent law.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support all aspects of docketing: iterate on current processes, reduce inconsistencies, and ensure solid double-checking to protect valuable intellectual property
- Add remarks from external and internal correspondence to docket actions
- Run daily reports of due dates and communicate reminders to case managers
- Handle other administrative responsibilities and additional projects to support global team of patent practitioners, paralegals, and administrative assistants
- Review incoming and outgoing correspondence, extract relevant information, and coordinate disposition
- Accurately calculate due dates and timely complete all docketing and de-docketing of U.S., EP, PCT, and international deadlines to grow Dolby’s international patent portfolio and ensure continued revenue streams
- Upload pertinent documents to docketing system
- Work on transfer in/out of IP, including assisting with patent acquisitions
- Proofread/double-check patent applications and filings receipts and conduct docketing audits
- Obtain documents from EPO/USPTO/WIPO
Job Requirements:
- Exhibits professionalism and composure in stressful situation and in meeting short deadlines
- Familiarity with Anaqua docketing software a plus
- Strong oral, written, and organizational skills
- Team player with ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Ability to read, understand, extract, and input information accurately from legal documents
- High level of initiative with process improvement and customer service mindset
- Proven ability to work independently in meeting firm deadlines with precision and accuracy
- Ability and willingness to learn new software applications
Qualification & Experience:
- B.A. or B.S. a plus
- At least 5 years of docketing experience, preferably at a law firm
- Solid knowledge of U.S., EP, PCT, and international patent docketing procedures/rules
- Exceptional attention to detail
