Job Description:
Upon successful completion of departmental training program, the Underwriting Technician is responsible for proficiently reviewing and evaluating new and renewal small business in accordance with established underwriting guidelines in order to achieve department goals of profit, rate and growth. This will involve answering customer inquiries, evaluating policy endorsements, executing policy transactions with a high degree of accuracy and providing a high level of customer service. They will be expected to continue to build on their Underwriting knowledge and submission review will increase in number and complexity.
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinates with Underwriting Support Specialists to bind agreed-upon policies.
- Analyzes current and prospective policyholders to determine appropriate quotation, indication or declination of policy. Ensures profitability and new business goals are met.
- Quotes and communicates pricing within a predetermined authority level to brokers and producers using industry standards and proprietary software and databases.
- Communicates effectively with external clientele and internal resource partners telephonically, via electronic correspondence. Contributes to productive agency relationships and client retention. Ensures deadlines are met and prompt response is provided.
- Reviews applications for insurance coverage proficiently, ensuring applicable information is accurate and complete for pricing determination. Gathers appropriate information needed and reaches out to agency partners to request any additional information required.
- Makes prompt, sound decisions on issues that arise in submissions based on the best information available.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- High School diploma or equivalent certificate required.
- To perform this job successfully, the individual should be proficient on the Microsoft Office Suite and able to quickly master proprietary and vended software applications.Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Able to apply concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
