Job Description:
The Real Estate Project Engineer is responsible for managing the engineering and site design of new stores and remodels, providing engineering support for the Real Estate Department, and managing the land development process for a given geographical region with the primary goal of securing permits for development.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of the site engineering, site permitting, and building permitting process for new store construction and remodels.
- Assist the Engineering Manager in the development and maintenance of engineering and site specifications, standards and procedures for new stores and remodels. Assist in the development of procedures for bidding process, construction processes and equipment selection.
- Partner with the Real Estate Manager in acquisition of new store locations and share responsibility for preparation of detailed site analysis. Manage the contract process including “critical dates” in conjunction with Legal staff. Responsible for the planning and entitlement process at all approval levels. Represent the company and testify as required before Planning and Zoning Boards and other formal and informal municipal groups. Utilize expert negotiation skills to optimize Wawa’s development opportunities.
- Review and provide input on technical issues within agreements of sale and lease through the review of title reports, surveys, easements, and development requirements. Provide input for negotiations that amend our boilerplate contract language.
- Train, educate and manage our Developer partners and their consultants to ensure Wawa standards, policies and procedures are followed during the entitlement process.
- Manage a select team of outside consultants to create a team that provides the best valued designs for new and remodeled Wawa facilities. Direct the permit and entitlement process and maintain accurate tracking of all permits needed for construction.
- Provide engineering support to resolve construction field problems on remodels and new stores.
- Oversee the remodel site plan preparation and approval process. Review and oversee outside engineering and surveying as related to the remodel program. Represent the company as required before Planning and Zoning Boards.
- Serve as a corporate liaison to all communities within his/her territory by getting actively involved in political processes and tracking new legislation that impacts store development.
- Oversee and manage special projects as required: septic system replacements, property condemnation, environmental cleanups and gasoline related projects.

Qualification & Experience:
- Ability to read and review engineering designs
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, knowledge of AutoCAD
- Minimum 5 years of similar experience in commercial land development, and site engineering and design
- Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or similar preferred, P.E. or MBA a plus
