Job Description:

This position is located on USDA Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region 6,Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District. The incumbent is responsible for collection and analysis of field data, project, landscape level planning input and technical assistance needed for reestablishing fire’s role in the ecological systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the development of Fire Management Action Plans and Forest Fire Prevention plans.
  • Develops, reviews, and monitors plans for fuels and vegetation management.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of draft environmental impact statements or environmental analysis reports.
  • Develops plans for a multiple-use forest resource area with diverse and complex problems and considerations.
  • Calculates the cost of the program based on staffing, equipment, supply, and material requirements.
  • Reviews and evaluates the interrelationship of various elements of the fire management program with functional resource plans and overall land management plans and schedules.
  • Carries out surveys for projects or programs with diverse or conflicting problems. Interprets available data in terms of the variables involved, the effect on other resources and the rationale of the competing interests.
  • Assesses problems covering diverse forest resource management situations, the need for variations in approach, the compatibility of resources and the means to devise strategies needed to overcome conflicting interests.
  • Assesses needs and provides District input into Forest National Fire Management Analysis System (NFMAS) and other fire management action plans.
  • Participates as a member of interdisciplinary teams, evaluating the impacts of USDA Forest Service and non-USDA Forest service activities on National Forest and other lands and resources.

Job Requirements:

  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Minimum of 90 days of wildland firefighting experience is required.
  • This is a Test Designated Position. You will be tested for illegal drugs prior to appointment and randomly thereafter. Appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results.
  • Must pass the Work Capacity Test for certain Interagency Fire Program Management or Fire
  • Program Management positions. See Additional Information.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
    Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
