Job Description:

The purpose of the Social Performance Expert Team is to inspire people and unlock leadership such that all countries within a given region can appropriately identify and manage social risks, impacts and opportunities in support of business outcomes and social license to operate.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Social Performance support (including interim Subject Matter Expert coverage) where in-country support is needed (country/asset/project).
  • Some travel to project and asset sites to provide support, assurance etc as needed.
  • Provide assurance as per the Social Performance Manual and other relevant aspects of the HSSE&SP Control Framework.
  • Support Social Performance integration in Country Corporate Relations (CR) Functional and Reputation Plans.
  • Work in partnership with members of the Social Performance Expert Team, in-country Social Performance practitioners and Corporate Relations teams, other Functions (e.g. HSSE, C&P) and the business.
  • Reporting.
  • Support development and roll out of Social Performance and Social Investment programs, guidance, information and procedures stemming from the Social Performance Expert Central Team (e.g. NXplorers, RAM, etc).
  • Social performance (SP) describes how we manage the impacts of our business on the communities and societies in which we operate. How well we manage these impacts affects the wellbeing of our neighbors, and ultimately of our business. The overall objective is to create a positive presence and legacy in our operational areas, and so gain community acceptance for our business objectives.
  • Work with Corporate Relations colleagues to gather and share good practices, stories, etc from across the region.
  • Competence development of the business and regional Social Performance (including Social Investment) skill pool, including tailoring and delivery of formal training.
  • Connect with Stakeholder and Non Technical Risk teams for collaboration opportunities and aligned communications in the region.
  • Support improvement of Social Performance networks in the USA.
  • Ability to work across cultures, diverse backgrounds and virtual / in-country teams.
  • Social Performance support to colleagues from the Business, broader Corporate Relations, and other functions.
  • SP Expert teams are set up in Shell to provide high levels of professional competence and subject matter expertise in key disciplines, e.g. SP. The global SP Expert team reports up to the VP Social Performance and sits in multiple regions around the world.
  • Role may be performed at a range of levels: global, regional, country, project or asset however it has a cross-business scope (Upstream, Downstream, IG/New Energies/NBD) with a focus on USA.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of six (6) years work experience working and partnering with business colleagues and integrating Social Performance into business decisions.
  • With Bachelor’s degree. Master’s preferred.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Significant and demonstrable experience with SP in operations and projects.
  • SP area expert.
  • Demonstrable experience across the spectrum of SP risks and themes, like local content, resettlement, etc.
  • Experience with social impact management, including development and/or implementation of impact mitigations in Project execution and/or Operational activities.
