Job Description: The Bank of Canada is embarking on a program of major social significance to design a contingent system for a central bank digital currency (CBDC), which can be thought of as a banknote, but in digital form. This project will require us to break new ground. It will take into consideration a wide variety of factors, including policy considerations, diverse stakeholder needs, difficult technical challenges and ensuring the development of a world-class user, inclusive, experience. Job Responsibilities: You will provide intellectual leadership to senior technical staff, guiding some trade off decisions, and making well reasoned explanations for design choices. Guided by strategic input from your Director, you will work with the Business Design Lead and others to create a product roadmap for the medium-term horizon. In collaboration with the product delivery leadership, you will assist in the creation of product development plans, the selection of vendors and the execution of the product development as required. Reporting to the Director Fintech Research in the IT Services department you will use your experience to design a digital currency product and services to meet both the Bank of Canada’s policy goals and the needs of millions of users, merchants and other stakeholders. Overall, you will have the opportunity to use your skills, develop these further, and contribute to other exciting areas of the project. Working with a senior technical team you will synthesise input from various internal and external stakeholders, market needs, policy goals, technical options and constraints in order to craft a coherent product architecture and design that will be a fit at a national scale and adaptable for decades into the future.
